Wind Mitigation Inspections
Insurance Credit to Possibly Lower your Premium
Insurance Credit to Possibly Lower your Premium
Wind mitigation inspections can save you money on your insurance policy! There is a 90% chance we can help you reduce the price of your current homeowners’ insurance policy.
We don’t sell insurance; we help you to save on your current policy by certifying your home’s current construction features that qualify for discounts. There are eight features that qualify, and if your home has one or more of them, you save money. All it takes is a 20-minute inspection, there is no guarantee on the amount you could save due to each home being different, but you could possibly save hundreds yearly for up to 5 years. Please note that these inspection forms are non-transferrable due to insurance companies requiring current inspection with your information listed.
Florida Law (FL § 627.0629) requires insurers to give “discounts, credits, or other rate differentials” if you provide certification that your home has one or more construction features proven to reduce damage and loss in windstorms. These discounts are to be applied for 5 years. Therefore, we recommend you have a wind mitigation inspection completed to save you money.
This is a common error and an innocent one as it relates to your insurance agent. The only likely way that this is true is if your home was built in 2006 or after or if you have had a wind inspection already on your current home. So, if this is a new purchase for you and/or you have additional credits available, then it is well worth having the wind inspection done. It will pay for itself many times over.
Accordingly, statistics show that in excess of 9 out of 10 homes will qualify for one or more credits! To date, we’ve completed thousands of wind inspections, and of those homes built since 1970, 100% of them qualified for at least one discount credit!
Only a wind mitigation inspection by a licensed inspector will qualify your home for these discounts.
Yes…ALL residential dwellings are eligible; from duplexes to high-rise condos. Well, how about rentals, second homes, or other investment properties? Yes. So long as it’s residential, the law provides for these discounts.
The inspector will survey the exterior of the dwelling, and the inside of the attic space.
Though relatively straightforward once you read them, the Florida law regarding Wind Mitigation has been hard to come by…a secret of sorts within the insurance industry. Moreover, even the majority of insurance agents we’ve spoken with have been unfamiliar with these laws. Therefore, speculation is a reason that insurance companies enjoy the excess premiums they receive by rating all homes as ‘high-risk’ until the policyholder provides certification otherwise. Here’s the chronology in short form…
Florida Law, statute (§627.0629 F.S. 2001) requires insurance companies to offer Florida homeowners “discounts, credits, or other rate differentials” for construction features that reduce damage and loss in windstorms.
Though the insurers were required to give discounts, the policyholder was required to provide certification of their home’s wind mitigating features...therein lies the ‘catch’. Also, it is important to note that you should only hire Florida ASHI Certified Inspectors
